Our Story
In August 1988, a small group of Ethiopian evangelical believers who had recently arrived in Winnipeg, Canada, decided to gather for Bible study and fellowship in a one-bedroom apartment unit. Over the following years, their meetings continued in the basement of Faith Temple Church and New Life Ministries. As the congregation grew, the need for more space arose, leading to an opportunity to hold regular church services at Calvary Temple in 1994.
In 1995, the Living Gospel Church (LGC) took a significant step by appointing its first head pastor, marking it as one of the earliest Ethiopian Evangelical Churches in Canada to have pastoral leadership. Brother Tesfa Beyene Chutta served as the pastor from November 1995 until 2001, when he transitioned to another ministry.
During the same year, LGC acquired one of its initial worship spaces. Brother Melkie Mebrat and brother Daniel Hunkiye were appointed as Senior and Associate Pastors, respectively. The church expanded further in 2013 with the acquisition of its second building.
As of now, approximately 300 individuals consider LGC their home. The Church actively serves the Winnipeg community through services conducted in both Amharic and English.
Our Faith

We believe the Holy Scriptures to be the divinely inbreathed, infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in the Persons of the Holy Trinity.

We believe in the virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, His deity, His sinless humanity, and perfect life, the eternal all-sufficiency of His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father’s right hand, and His personal coming again at His second advent.

We believe that justification is a judicial act of God on the believer’s behalf solely on the merits of Christ and that regeneration by the power of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.

We believe in holy living, the present-day reality of the baptism in the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the Lord’s supernatural healing of the human body.

We believe in Christ’s Lordship of the Church, the observance of the ordinances of Christian baptism by immersion for believers, and the Lord’s Supper.

We believe in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed in heaven and the eternal doom of the unregenerate in the lake of fire.

Our mission is to bring Christ to everyone through spirit-led ministries. From worship services to community events, we strive to be a beacon of hope and light, guiding others towards a deeper relationship with Christ.
LGC is member of Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC) and Ethiopian Evangelical Churches Fellowship in Canada.
