Community Services

From its humble beginnings over Thirty Seven years ago as a small fellowship of believers to its current status as a legally recognized institution, Living Gospel Church (LGC) has endeavored to make meaningful contributions to both the Kingdom of God and the local community, acknowledging these blessings as bestowed by God's grace. Our work is grounded in Christ’s command to love our neighbours with compassion, humility, and service. Situated in downtown Winnipeg, the Church has remained a steadfast pillar dedicated to serving the diverse African communities, with a special emphasis on individuals of Ethiopian and Eritrean descent. We support both newcomers and longtime residents by addressing their unique challenges. Through various designed to address the multifaceted needs of our community, including initiatives targeting children, youth, and women, LGC has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to uplifting those around us. Below are examples of the impactful community activities and initiatives spearheaded by LGC and its members.

Community Events

LGC stands as a hub for a variety of community events, acting as a catalyst for unity and shared experiences among its members. A shining example of this communal spirit is the longstanding tradition of summer camping at the Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre, an event cherished for over two decades, fostering fellowship and friendship among attendees. LGC warmly hosts various social gatherings that encourage meaningful interactions
among its members and neighboring communities, from communal meals to targeted workshops and conferences. At our recent Christmas dinner in December 2024 for underprivileged members of our community, which was attended by about three hundred people, we were honored to welcome the Honorable Leah Gazan, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre. Moreover, in times of grief, the Church and its members stand alongside the Ethiopian and Eritrean communities, providing steadfast
support, comfort, and practical assistance in the wake of loss.

Resettlement Programs

LGC has played a key role in forging partnerships with governmental bodies and private entities to facilitate the legal immigration and resettlement of refugees in Canada, providing a lifeline for those seeking refuge and a fresh start. Over the years, the Church has been instrumental in facilitating the immigration of hundreds of individuals who have endured arduous journeys as refugees in various parts of the world, ensuring their seamless integration into Canadian society. Through a steadfast commitment to sponsorship agreements with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), LGC continues to offer support to newcomers, providing crucial assistance with housing, integration, and other essential services.

Affordable Housing

One of the notable community contributions by LGC is the establishment of a 60,505 square-foot, seven-storey affordable housing complex in collaboration with provincial and federal governments. This initiative offers 38 inclusive apartments, serving as a vital
asset to immigrant and refugee families. This project stands as a distinctive achievement, showcasing LGC's capability to deliver impactful and inclusive community initiatives.

International Outreach

Beyond its local community, LGC extends its philanthropic endeavors globally, offering support to regions ravaged by various crises, including conflict, natural disasters, and pandemics. These efforts include providing support in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and during the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with sister organizations. In collaboration with Covenant International, the Church and its members have been instrumental in supporting approximately 100 underprivileged children in Africa, providing financial assistance for their education and living expenses. These efforts have yielded inspiring success stories, with some of these children graduating
from colleges and becoming agents of positive change within their communities.
